Homeless Assistance Program
The homeless assistance program provides support, referrals and housing assistance to homeless individuals and families. Housing stability and life skills through the Family Development model are the primary goals fo the program.
Community Ever Green House
A passive solar green house located in Gering, the green house is available year round for gardening, socialization, and field trips for all ages, including the elderly, youth and handicapped. Classes in a number of different specialized topics are offered each month. In the summer the Ever Green House is host to numerous summer visitors and offers a community garden as well.
Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)
The CSFP program provides nutritious food box on a monthly basis that is based on the USDA food pyramid. The program offers 13 distribution sites in the Southern Panhandle of Nebraska. Eligibility for the program is based on age-elderly 60 years and older, post partum women and children ages 5-6. CSFP is an alternative program to the WIC participants if they so chose.
Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers Program
The Seasonal Farmworkers Program provides partial payment of rent, utilities, food, gasoline and/or minor car repair to migrant families who come to our area each year to work in the agricultural fields. Outreach Specialists screen applicants for needs and provide appropriate referrals to other resources.
Foster Grandparent Program
The Foster Grandparent Program is a national program which matches the patience and experience of age with the resilience and energy of youth. Persons sixty years and older spend time with children reading, talking, building life skills and enjoying what each generation has to offer. The volunteers work with children and youth in a variety of educational settings.
Senior Companion Program
The Senior Companion Program matches volunteers sixty years and older with frail elderly who are still in their own home. The client is given individual attention they might not otherwise receive. The ultimate goal of the program is to help the client maintain their independence, improve their quality of life and remain in their own homes for as long as is appropriate.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
VITA provides assistance to eligible clients to help them complete their tax returns. E-filing is offered. Assistance is also offered for those who wish to complete their own returns.
